Complete Beginner's Guide

Everything you need to know to get started safely

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Your Device

Check that the security seals are intact and the packaging hasn't been tampered with. Your Trezor should come with the device, USB cable, and recovery seed cards.

Step 2: Download Official Software Only

Always download Trezor Suite from the official trezor.io website. Never use third-party installers or apps as they may be malicious.

Step 3: Create Your Recovery Seed

Write down your 12 or 24-word recovery seed on the provided cards. This is the ONLY way to recover your funds if you lose your device. Never take a photo or store it digitally.

Step 4: Set a Strong PIN

Choose a PIN that's at least 6 digits long and not easily guessable. This protects your device if it's physically stolen.

Step 5: Start Small

Send a small test transaction first to ensure everything works correctly. Once confirmed, you can transfer the rest of your assets.

Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

Learn from others - don't make these critical errors

Not Writing Down Your Recovery Seed

Why it's dangerous: Without your recovery seed, you'll lose access to all your crypto if your device breaks or is lost.

✓ Solution: Write it down immediately and store it in a safe place.

Storing Recovery Seed Digitally

Why it's dangerous: Photos, cloud storage, or text files can be hacked or stolen by malware.

✓ Solution: Only use physical paper or metal backup cards.

Sharing Your Seed with Anyone

Why it's dangerous: Trezor support will NEVER ask for your seed. Anyone asking for it is trying to steal your funds.

✓ Solution: Never share it with anyone, ever. No exceptions.

Using Unofficial Software

Why it's dangerous: Fake apps and phishing sites can steal your crypto when you enter your seed.

✓ Solution: Only download from trezor.io - verify the URL carefully.

Not Testing with Small Amounts First

Why it's dangerous: A wrong address or mistake could result in losing large amounts of crypto.

✓ Solution: Always send a small test transaction first.

Buying from Unauthorized Resellers

Why it's dangerous: Devices from eBay or Amazon may be compromised with modified firmware.

✓ Solution: Only buy from trezor.io or authorized retailers.
